Negatively Positive

I had a couple of errands to run today. I made my schedule for the day carefully so I could get things done and have a meal ready for Bear, who happens to be working days today. When am I ever going to learn. I should know by now that with my luck, careful planning is a total waste of time.

After the other runs, I pulled into the grocery. A gentleman followed me and pulled up behind my car and waited for me to get out. I actually didn't notice him till I got out. He had his window down and told me I had a very low tire in back. I thanked him and looked. Yup! It's low. But, not flat. Think. Do I get my groceries and stop at the tire shop or call AAA and wait there? Now AAA is a wonderful service but I know from experience how long they can take to even show up. We don't have cell phones, so I have to go into the store anyway....and Bear is working.....so I'll go ask his opinion. After looking at the tire, he thought it would be OK, to stop on the way home.

Which I did. But, then I had the problem of the freezer/fridge items waiting in the car. It's Oct. 4, and it's almost 80 degrees out there. And, they couldn't get to me immediately. Almost, only about 15 minutes to wait. So, they suggested putting air in the tire and letting me run home with the groceries, then going back to my neighborhood tire shop.

Which I did. I also grabbed a book, expecting to be there awhile. So much for my carefully planned day. By the time I got back to the shop, I was in a pretty negative frame of mind.

When I got back, another lady had slipped in and they were working on her tire. Apparently she had a problem to duplicate my own. And they were telling her that one of her lug nuts had been put on crookedly and they might break it off to get her tire off. Her attitude was totally upbeat. She was laughing when she told them to do what they had to do and deal with whatever, whenever. I sat down and said something to her about her "also bad day."

"No," she told me. "Actually I'm having a pretty good day. I discovered the problem before I ruined my tire and they were able to get to me quickly." Just then they came back and said her lug nut was OK. "See" she told me. "It's a good day."

Golly, gee whiz. I'm always seeing the problems first. We talked while we waited. (Better then a book any day.) It was pretty obvious this lady had never seen a negative in any situation. I've never met such a positive personality.

Sooooooo. A wonderful stranger took the time to follow me and warn me of my tire. Which had picked up a nail, by the way. My groceries made it to the fridge/freezer. It only cost me $12.80 and took a whole 40 minutes of my day. The car is now ready for the trip T.K.P. and I planned for his son's birthday surprise this weekend. (Which also means the tire didn't go flat when we were out of town.) I met a cheery lady and had a nice conversation. And my negative day was actually pretty positive. But, ONLY because I did meet such an upbeat lady.

(Now if I can only avoid slipping back into my negative ways. Yeah, like that's going to happen. I'm too old, stubborn, and set in my ways. And, with my luck.....ooops, it's already happening.)
